Good people all over the world are wondering what to do next.  I won't even try to speak for all the good people in the world.  They all need to do something in response to the rising tyranny in our world.  But I'll just speak for me and my house.

We will serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

One American Christian leader stands out to me over the past thirty years.  His name is Flip Benham.  I never paid as much attention to him during my career as I should have.  He appeared to my coiffed pro family professional manners as an odd character.  One time he walked across America with a donkey in tow, for example.

I now realize he was the most prominent Christian man in America who got it.

Most Christians still don't know that his ministry work saved Jane Roe.  Norma McCorvey is a pro life warrior today because of Flip's faithfulness and courage.

The SCOTUS Decision and Nattering Nabobs of Negativism: Salvation Comes from Moral Rectitude Not Saying a Prayer or Donning a Suit

I think it was Richard Nixon who coined the phrase "nattering nabobs of negativism."  We've got lots of nabobs in the pulpits and well-paid "pro family" leadership seats of America.  They're the ones who have mastered the art of fund raising or passing the offering plate on defeat after defeat after defeat after defeat.

They are all sending out fund raising emails and promising to fight to the death now that five "justices" have "ruled" that sodomy can be the basis upon which a marriage and civilization can be built.

Also, many of them are finding fancy sounding words and ideas to invite sodomy into the Christian Church.  They say its inevitable, among other things.

Uh huh.  I don't think so.

America may be a corpse, as some say, but that doesn't let Christians off the hook.  They still have to fight for the Gospel.  The Gospel is about dying to self.  There is no better way to die to self today than to proclaim the truth about sex and gender.

Law and politics follow culture.

It is now time for the frustrated majority culture of Maine to rip out the heart of the lurching "gay" Frankenstein that occupies Augusta.  This is much bigger than Maine.  This will begin the healing of the West.

Since the politicians cannot confront the monster the good people of Maine will have to do it.  We've done it many times before.  We can, and we must, do it again.  We can never stop.  Our children and our grandchildren are too important to us.

What we need to do is very simple.  The beating heart of the "gay" agenda in law and politics is a phrase -- "sexual orientation."  Erasing that phrase from the law will stop the heartbeat.

And that is what we are going to do in the next year and a half.  We're going to cast out this demon.

Do you want to assure that your children and grandchildren don't have to wonder whether their body parts are real or not?  While the society seems to have completely collapsed into nonsense we know better.  As citizens we must continue to believe in, and work for, righteousness and common sense.  The darker it gets the brighter the light shines.

It is simple.  Many hands make light work.  Here is what we must do specifically:

1. Gather 100,000 signatures before the end of 2015.
2. Win the vote in the Presidential election in November 2016.

Maine is very special because the people have an uninterrupted and very open path to the ballot.  The politicians have no mechanism to stop the vote from happening.  Once the signatures are gathered the politicians either approve the proposal (to erase "sexual orientation" in Maine law) or they put it on the ballot.

We also are a small state with relatively inexpensive media markets.  And we are leaning in the conservative direction politically.  Paul LePage's comfortable victory in last year's voting is the most recent example of this reality.

Very soon I'll open a political action committee called Equal Rights Not Special Rights.  This committee will lead the campaign.

Maine people know, especially after watching the foolishness spread over the past couple decades, that the "gays" are only interested in special rights.  They are hiding behind the noble idea of equal rights.  They are using the government to force normal people to accept their evil.

The effect of this change in the law will be dramatic, real and righteous.  Maine people will once again be equal.  Citizens who choose to make their bedroom antics a matter of public approval will no longer have a leg up.  The government will not be their ally in sin any longer.  We will all have equal rights.  The first ones in line to sign the petitions will be thinking "gays."  They know that privacy in sexual matters is their best protection.  Christians and private homosexuals are not enemies.  All this public stupidness about marriage and transeverything is really an attack on their liberty.

A reasoning civilization rewards and protects marriage and family formation.  It doesn't undermine it.  Even freedom loving non-Marxist "gays" know this.  They just want to be left alone.

Christianity will never view sex outside of marriage as anything other than sin and evil.  The enemies of this idea who are both inside and outside of the Church must be defeated.  And the most potent enemy in this war is Satan and his demons.  We are aiming our attack at him, as Christians have done for 2,000 years.

We are going to stop this ugly monster dead in his tracks.  This is not a fight we will leave to our children.  We're going to finish it in 2016.

A Cause Abandoned

In a fund raising letter published today Brian Camenker of MassResistance writes, "Mike Heath, another unwavering pro-family leader, led two successful statewide ballot fights against the homosexual movement in Maine. But in 2009, the mushy pro-family establishment declared him to be 'too controversial' and his major donors fell away. Without funding he couldn’t continue running his organization. Then in 2012, the homosexual movement there pushed through their 'gay marriage' referendum."

On our Pray for Truth Road Trip Jared and I will be stopping in Chicago to visit with my good friend Peter LaBarbera.  Peter helped me with a story I worked on back in 2009.  You can read all about it in an online press release entitled Details of Gruesome Murder by "Married" Homosexual will Receive Fresh Scrutiny .

The story concerned the murder of Fred Wilson in the basement of his South Portland home after what we can only imagine must have been an unspeakably vile encounter.

The press release revealed that, "Heath and his associates learned that Wilson was a member of the Harbor Masters Club, a group dedicated to the practice of sadomasochism, and served as their IT specialist.  Heath also learned that Wilson was a contributor to a  museum in Chicago known as 'The Leather Archives and Museum.' These stunning revelations led Heath and his associates to conclude much in advance of the mainstream press that the killing was related to sadomasochism; and they were the first to break a story which would eventually travel around the globe."

LePage Bests "Gay" Michaud as Repubs Gain Power in Legislature

On a day when Republicans made significant gains nationally Mainers rejected the "conventional wisdom" of libs, progs and the media.  Voters gave outspoken Governor Paul LePage four more years in the State House.  He will have a Republican Senate and strengthened House of Representatives with whom to work for the next two years.

This is a hopeful sign for two reasons.

1. The Republican Platform makes the Party officially pro life and pro marriage, even though it has demonstrated countless times an unwillingness to fight for these ideas.
2. LePage's thinking isn't perverted on sexual morality.  Watch this youtube.  He knows sodomy is evil.

Democrats, on the other hand, are hopeless.

Unfortunately this gain for Republicans may end up being seen as a defeat for Christians.  Prominent powers within the party practically threw the ancient faith under the proverbial bus in order to appeal to what the media describes as the center, or moderates.

American culture is awash in sin.  History shows, however, that this can change overnight as a result of spiritual awakening and moral reform.  LePage's victory suggests that all may not be lost.  With almost no friends in high places he still captured nearly half the votes in a three way contest where he was outspent at least two to one.  This election was the most expensive in Maine history.

In the closing weeks of the campaign Maine watched their Governor's race become a national contest between New Jersey Governor/2016 Presidential hopeful Chris Christie and President Barack Obama.  Pro Life Christie came to Maine many times to stump for LePage.  Pro sodomy Obama came to Portland late last week for sodomite democrat Mike Michaud.  

Obama and "gayness" lost big yesterday.

It seems Putin isn't the only one giving the lame duck politician a spanking.  A majority of America's voters clearly aren't in his corner either.

Russia has been distinguishing itself lately as a culture unwilling to bend over for the sodomy movement.  Just this week the business community demonstrated impressive resilience.  A business dismantled an interactive memorial to Steve Jobs.  The business proclaimed, "In Russia, gay propaganda and other sexual perversions among minors are prohibited by law."

Apple's current leader, Tim Cook, publicly celebrated his evil lifestyle in a breathy essay last week.

Alien Feminism: Enmity Between Woman & the Devil

Imagine if you will, a battle fought out high above the earth, as a woman struggles against a hissing, serpent-like creature, then finally hurls the repulsive creature into space. Down through the darkness the creature falls, down through the fleecy white clouds, until it sets foot on a planet not unlike earth, where it is free to hunt its prey. These are scenes from the movie Alien; and Alien is a movie which is hailed as a feminist classic.

The movie Alien, as does the best science fiction, retells certain familiar stories from the Bible. Non-believers reject the truth of the Bible, but they are moved when they see that same truth portrayed in cinematic form.  The battle in the heavens shown in Alien is a retelling of the enmity between woman and the Devil as set forth in the Book of Genesis:

“I will make you and the woman hostile toward each other. I will make your descendants and her descendants hostile toward each other. He will crush your head, and you will bruise his heel.”  (Genesis 3:15)

The very first conversation in the Bible takes place between Eve and the Serpent. The Serpent, who is the Devil, entices Eve into confounding the laws of God. We may gather from this account that the Devil hates woman more than he hates man, because woman gives life to what he detests, the human race.

But the retelling of the story is garbled in Alien. Rather than succumbing to the serpent, the heroine defeats the serpent by usurping the role of the male. But the serpent is not slain, and instead finds its way to earth.

In like fashion, feminism, which purports to be a triumph of womankind, is in reality, a war on women, a re-tempting of Eve in the Garden of Eden. Nor does the liberation of women lead to a paradise on earth, but instead ushers in the society envisioned by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

Friedrich Engels revealed the real purpose behind feminism when he wrote the following:

"Only when we have led every woman from the home into the workplace will complete equality be achieved, by the destruction of the institution of the family, which is the basis of capitalist society." (Friedrich Engels, Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State)

Feminism scorns child-bearing and motherhood, just as it welcomes abortion, lesbianism, and the rearing of children by the state.  In the movie Alien, the heroine is a warrior, and the monster is a mother.  Likewise, the abomination called “homosexual marriage” rejects child-bearing and child-rearing, which is the essence of womanhood.

What then is the origin of this strange movie, with its distorted message of feminism and its gory depiction of violence? Alien grew out of an even more lurid and bizarre movie directed by Curtis Harrington, a homosexual.   Harrington, a maker of horror films, is hailed as a pioneer of the ‘New Queer Cinema;’ and the monsters in his films are yes, women. The monster in the movie which is the predecessor to Alien is a woman ‘with a bouffant hairdo and the grace of a ballet dancer,’ and like the creature in Alien, she too is a mother.

St. Paul says in the first chapter of the Book of Romans that homosexuality is caused by a rejection of God and the worship of created beings. The more depraved aspects of the homosexual lifestyle, including marching in so-called “gay pride parades” -- either completely nude or dressed as nuns --  hurling obscenities at Christians, and organizing clubs for sadomasochists, have been ably documented by the pro-family crusader Peter LaBarbera. No one can deny such scenes exist; nor can anyone deny that these lurid displays seem demonic.  It remains for us to properly evaluate the significance of these phenomena.

America is Sodom

Weeks ago I heard about this documentary produced by Russians.  The producers include some trenchant comments by my friend, Scott Lively.  Peter LaBarbera at Americans for Truth about Homosexuality mentioned it to me weeks ago.  His DVD copy of the film was confiscated from him a couple days ago.  The Canadian Border Patrol was concerned that it incites "hate."

I finally took time to watch it yesterday.  Everybody should watch it.  The film nails it.

It is especially important for Maine voters to view the film.  On Tuesday the Pine Tree State will decide whether to elect America's first sodomite governor.

Three men want the job.  Personally, I don't care who wins.  God has turned his back on America.  Listen to Paul the Apostle.

They traded the glory of God who holds the whole world in his hands for cheap figurines you can buy at any roadside stand.

So God said, in effect, "If that's what you want, that's what you get." It wasn't long before they were living in a pigpen, smeared with filth, filthy inside and out. And all this because they traded the true God for a fake god, and worshiped the god they made instead of the God who made them—the God we bless, the God who blesses us. Oh, yes!

Worse followed. Refusing to know God, they soon didn't know how to be human either—women didn't know how to be women, men didn't know how to be men. Sexually confused, they abused and defiled one another, women with women, men with men—all lust, no love. And then they paid for it, oh, how they paid for it—emptied of God and love, godless and loveless wretches.

 Julio Severo wrote of the recent Presidential election in Brazil.

While Brazilians, who are obliged to vote by Brazilian antidemocratic laws, will make their political choices based only on economy, I have made my choice not to vote, based on the intent by both candidates to disfigure, for the benefit of the gay agenda, family, which is, before the State, the first institution established by God. Therefore, family has precedence and absolute priority over the State and economy. It is based on this absolute priority that I reject both Brazilian candidates.

I can't bring myself not to vote for Paul LePage, but I'm not enthusiastic about him -- or any American politician.  At least LePage was willing to use sodomy as an epithet once.

Maine deserves Mike Michaud.

We've decided in the majority to enshrine not just sodomy, but transgendering.  We were the first state to create sodomy based marriage in a popular vote.  Ironically, this came just over a decade after becoming the first state to reject so-called "gay" rights in a popular election -- two times in a row.

As a follow on to the Sodomy documentary above Christians should read, and take to heart, Scott Lively's written warning to the Church.

He writes.

Now that the last secular barriers to the “gay” agenda have been crushed, all of their weapons and all of their warriors will be focused on the last remaining obstacle to their power, the Christian church.

I wasn't surprised to find that the leadership of America's largest Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptists, have decided to increase the pace of their collapse.  And why not?  If the Pope can claim that we prove our Christian love by tolerating sodomy why not Albert Mohler.  Joining the parade of quislings he recently admitted that he was wrong in the past to claim that people who have "same sex attraction" can change.

Wouldn't life be simpler if we told one another the truth?  Same sex attraction -- really?

We are talking about people who reject common sense, marriage, family, truth and decency.  Instead they want to sodomize one another and hide behind words and phrases like "sexual orientation,"  "gay rights," "same sex attraction" etc.

Would that they wanted to simply sodomize one another.  Instead, they now demand that I surrender my grandson and granddaughter over to their evil programming in "public" schools.

Billy Graham is said to have observed many years ago that God would have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah if he didn't judge America for her sexual sins.

America IS Sodom.

This is fun to watch

Congressgay Mike Michaud was honored recently.  And Eliot Cutler is beside himself.  Angry.

Michaud wants to be Maine's first sodomite Governor.  He is running against Paul LePage, Maine's current Governor.  Eliot Cutler is also in the race as an independent.  Cutler wants to be Maine's first pro LGBTQABCDEFGHIJKLMNOProgay Governor.

In this NPR story Cutler whines about Michaud being honored at the sodomy parade in Portland last month.

Cutler believes that this is a matter of principle.

Referring to the 19 times Michaud voted for common sense by voting against "gay" rights while serving in the Maine Legislature Cutler says, "That was a moment, those were 19 moments, when principle was important and he voted no."

He is right that this is a matter of principle.  The principles of both Michaud and Cutler are, however, perverted.

I'm not trying to be mean.  Heaven forbid.  I'm telling the truth.

Here are some of the real principles at issue in this very gay debate.

Leviticus 18:22 KJV

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Genesis 19:24 KJV

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven

Matthew 11:24 KJV

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Ezekiel 16:49 KJV

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

This last observation by the prophet Ezekiel is most instructive.  We all know how proud they are.  They label their parades with the word.  They demand that we learn all about their pride.

They are proud of their "fullness of bread" and their "abundance of idleness."  And sodomy does absolutely nothing to help the poor and needy.  Their sexual practices bring death, not life.

Mainers know this, and they are concerned about these principles.  The privacy of the voting booth and the perverted principles of Cutler and Michaud will propel Paul LePage to another four years in the Blaine House.

Maine Governor Thinks Sodomy is a Bad Thing

Maine's Governor is taking it on the chin.  Angry at a Liberal politician the Governor suggested that he and the people of Maine are being sodomized.  This of course raised a chorus of criticism from the feminized among us.  Leading the choir in the Portland Press Herald article condemning the Governor is, appropriately, a choir director.

The executive director (a church worship leader) of the Christian group I once proudly headed (when it was willing to fight) led other voices for emasculation in condemning the conservative governor.  It is meaningless to give the views expressed in this article any deeper reflection.  It is the sort of thinking expressed in that article that has brought us to this point of cultural and moral insanity.

The governor got angry.  Good for him.  He named names.  So be it.

Like all of us when we get angry he'll probably wish he had expressed his feelings differently when he has time to reflect.

I for one am, however, very thankful that when his emotions stripped away the political facade and he sought for a suitably offensive epithet to express those angry emotions he found that sodomy served.

For that I say, PRAISE GOD!

Who is Walking Away from the Battle?

Our splendid Maine summer is here at last, and people want to think about camping, boating, and fishing instead of worry about politics. That is fine. Not everyone is called to fight the forces of immorality which have engulfed our state.

Earlier this week, someone made the laughable comment that I "walked away from the battle" when I left the Christian Civic League.  I wish someone had told me that earlier!  I was wondering why I was so bogged down with work and worries about our nation's future.  

The  gentleman's comments were included in a webpage thread to an online newspaper article in which he is quoted.  He claimed in his remarks that I was "competitive" and that I created a rift with the Roman Catholic Church.

I've already addressed the charge that I created a rift with the Catholic Church here. Someone ought to call my Catholic friends to ask for comment.  The claim that I was competitive is too silly for anyone to worry about.

But let me address the laughable claim that I "walked away from the battle." That way we will know what the battle is, and we will know just who walked away from it.

The League: A Look Back

It was my honor to work for the Christian Civic League of Maine for more than two decades.  I was there when the ministry began creeping towards compromise on the evil of abortion.  I, in fact, helped create the “strategy."

I later learned that compromise is not a strategy.  It is cowardice.  God doesn’t compromise, and politics doesn’t have to be about “cutting the deal” or finding a middle way.  Politics is ennobled by truth, courage, beauty and the power of good ideas.

I was also there when the League decided not to rest on its laurels as the homosexual movement bulldozed the state’s morals.  We decided as a matter of political strategy to go on the offense with the “gay” movement.  We reasoned that they would achieve their goals faster with spineless, compromising, deal-making, politicians than with Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad and the Average Joe.

Kagan a Lesbian? Why it Matters

I sought, and received from Matt, permission to publish this sassy column a week or so ago. I wish that time had permitted me sharing it with you sooner. Lots going on.  I serve on the Americans for Truth Board of Directors with Matt.  Even though we haven't met (yet) I consider him a good friend.  He was fired from his job at a prominent national insurance company a few years ago simply for expressing his conviction that homosexuality is morally wrong.  He is now a rising star in the world's conservative movement, and deservedly so.  He writes well.  He is often published on www.wnd.com.  Check him out.  Way to go Matt!  Great column!! -- Mike Heath

I don't see how liberal media-types can write, what with those uncalloused, milky-soft little digits all bundled in bulky kid gloves and all. Oh, when the target of their "reporting" is a conservative politico, or even Tea Party Joe, off come the gloves. But when it's one of their own – when circumstances require that a fellow liberal undergo a modicum of journalistic scrutiny – its simpatico most sublime. Out with the inquiry; in with the Huggies and tushie powder.

Media, here's your question: "Solicitor Kagan, do you identify as a lesbian?" Ms. Kagan, your answer is simpler still: "Yes" or "no."

Pipe down, lefties. Yes, it is relevant. Most liberals would disagree, but despite "progressive" protestations to the contrary, character does, in fact, matter. A majority of Americans still consider sexual morality – or a lack thereof – a pertinent factor in contemplating one's fitness for any public service – chiefly, perhaps, a lifetime appointment to our most supreme earthly court.

Every major world religion, thousands of years of history and uncompromising human biology have established that homosexual conduct is among other volitional behaviors rightly filed under "sexual immorality." Indeed, the majority of folks around the world – billions, actually – count this a timeless truth.

But the controversial nature of homosexuality is but one point of concern. Another involves potential conflicts of interest, "real or perceived." If we had a judicial nominee – widely believed a compulsive gambler – tapped to preside over gambling cases, would it not matter? If we had a nominee credibly rumored to use medical marijuana who might someday rule on the legality of medical marijuana, wouldn't such information be germane?

And before you liberals throw out that favorite red herring: "By this logic, Clarence Thomas shouldn't rule on cases involving race or sexuality because he's a black heterosexual male" – remember: skin color is a neutral, immutable characteristic. Being black is what someone is.

On the other hand, being "gay" is what someone does. It involves feelings and changeable behaviors. Homosexual conduct is more akin to the aforementioned gambling or pot smoking behaviors than it is to skin color (and for those in the lifestyle, especially men, sodomy most definitely involves rolling the dice). To compare "black" or "heterosexual" to "gay" is to compare apples to oranges. Understandably, many African Americans find this disingenuous comparison tremendously offensive.

Moreover, "heterosexual" is the state of sexual normalcy. It's our God-given design. There remains no credible or replicated scientific evidence to the contrary. Homosexual conduct is but one of many sexually deviant behaviors. Even Darwin's theory of evolution, which imagines "survival of the fittest," would seem to bolster this self-evident truth. You can choose political correctness. I choose moral and biological correctness.

Still, Kagan's "sexual orientation" remains the pink elephant in the room: Can a sitting justice, potentially engaged in the homosexual lifestyle, be trusted to rule on cases that might well grant special preferred government status to some – including that very justice – while, at the same time, eliminating certain free-speech and religious-liberties rights enjoyed by others? (i.e., hate-crimes laws; the Employment Non-Discrimination Act; constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act; constitutionality of "don't ask don't tell," etc.)

In April, CBS News published an online column identifying Kagan – should she be confirmed – as the "first openly gay justice." The White House pounced, demanded CBS remove the article and called the assertion "false charges." CBS dutifully complied, tail twixt legs, whimpered away and curled-up behind the rest of Obama's slobbering media lapdogs.

Whereas every liberal hack on the planet tripped over one another to demand Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Ted Haggard and, most recently, George Rekers divulge the most intimate details of their own bizarre (allegedly) sexual appetites, with Kagan, they've suddenly lost interest.

Although the mainstream media refuse to do their job, some in the homosexual-activist press are stepping-up to fill the vacuum.

Homosexual blogger Andrew Sullivan, for instance, writing in The Atlantic, opined: "In a free society in the 21st century, it is not illegitimate to ask [whether Kagan is gay]. And it's cowardly not to tell."

But Kagan ain't tellin', and the media ain't askin'. Of course, even if they were inclined to ask, they'd have a difficult time doing so. The White House has Kagan wrapped-up tighter than Barney Frank in a bustier.

The question is important for context. The answer, for instance, might explain why Kagan drop-kicked our brave men and women of the armed services in the solar plexus, during a time of war, by banning military recruiters from Harvard while dean of the law school. She did so in protest of the military's "don't ask don't tell" policy, calling it "a profound wrong" and "a moral injustice of the first order."

As it turned out, Kagan's actions were illegal, and the very Supreme Court upon which she hopes to serve slapped her down with its 8-0 decision upholding the Solomon Amendment, which would have allowed the Department of Defense to withhold federal funding to Harvard if it failed to reverse its discriminatory policy.

Ed Whelan, head of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., said of Kagan's activism: "At a time of war, in the face of the grand civilizational challenge that radical Islam poses, Kagan treated military recruiters worse than she treated the high-powered law firms that were donating their expensive legal services to anti-American terrorists."

Newt Gingrich took his criticism a step further. While addressing the controversy, he bluntly said of Kagan's nomination: "That is an act so unbecoming of an American that she should be disqualified from the very beginning."

I agree.

Indeed, whether or not Elena Kagan self-identifies as a lesbian, she has proven herself a radical anti-military, pro-homosexual ideologue and activist. There's little doubt that she would take this activism with her to the high court.

So, Ms. Solicitor General, if in fact you are "totally not gay," as some of your friends and your president claim, then it's my hope that a few Republican U.S. senators might take the time to introduce you to a nice fellow by the name of Phil A. Buster. Believe me, it's a match made in heaven.

Now it's about bathrooms?!

Remember when certain things were unmentionable.  It wasn't that you couldn't mention them.  You just didn't mention them because it didn't occur to you that you should think about them.  You know, issues like what defines a family and marriage.  Remember the days when there wasn't always emerging discontent over sex?

Now it's not enough for media and political leaders to feed the public a steady diet of "debate" about "gays."  The revolutionaries among us are going to assure that it is safe for boys to compete on girls sports teams, after they spend some time in the girl's locker room ... of course.

I know, I know.  Who am I to judge?  I'm supposed to be a good Christian and love everyone, no matter what they do.  All good Christians love GLBTQI people.  We don't hate.  And maintaining reasonable definitions of right and wrong about sexuality is definitely hateful.

On Monday of this week the Maine Human Rights Commission met in Augusta.  Late last year they met with radical homosexual leaders behind closed doors and cooked up a set of guidelines to assure that confused men and boys have access to women's restrooms and sports teams.  This bizarre activity drew little resistance, mostly because reasonable people find the whole discussion distasteful and weird.  It was also flying under the radar because the Commission was trying to pass the guidelines without a public hearing.

Some stalwart citizens objected and the Commission came to its senses.  They decided to hold a public hearing later this year.

Some Christian leaders stayed away from the work session (a public meeting where only commissioners and staff can speak) arguing that it wasn't important because the Commission is only making rules, not laws.  One leader in particular called on Christians to stay away, and suggested that citizens who showed up were not being politically prudent or thoughtful.

This confused and tragic political landscape exists because the Church is not speaking clearly about sin -- especially in the public arena.  Sex outside of marriage is simply wrong.  All of it, homosexual or otherwise.  No Christian can, in good conscience, support any law, guideline or policy that protects sexual sin.  I would argue that Christians of good will have an obligation to act on their knowledge about family formation, marriage and proper relations between men and women.  We must resist the aggressive politiking of the death culture that upholds the practice of abortion and homosexuality.

I commend Paul Madore and Bob Celeste for showing up on Monday.  Steve Martin brought a small group all the way down from Aroostook County.  These are all fine Maine citizens who deserve our full throated praise for their work on this emotional issue.  God bless you all!

The Homosexual Rights Battle in Maine: Looking Back so we can Move Forward

The Roman Catholic Church's political action committee put out a short statement last week, the day after I announced I would lead the People's Veto of Senator Damon's genderless marriage bill. Here is what they wrote:

The People's Veto is currently under serious consideration. Be assured that we will keep you updated on a regular basis. Just as the hundreds of thousands of Mainers who support traditional marriage range across all faiths and political philosophies, so, too, will the coalition to defeat this law at the polls. Your efforts will most likely be needed again in the near future, and we'll be in touch shortly to tell you more. --Most Sincerely, Maine Marriage Initiative

This is good news.

What galls me about the current situation is that everything has developed pretty much as we predicted it would twenty years ago. We have sacrificed much, standing virtually alone up to now, to tell everyone who will listen why we object to laws that affirm sex outside of marriage. And, when we've been up front and honest with the people of Maine we've won. When we've tried to be too clever we've lost. More on that in a bit.

We will win this People's Veto because we don't play the games associated with politics in Maine. We don't care about political parties, or the careers of politicians. The people will reject Senator Damon's genderless marriage proposal because they will hear the unvarnished loving truth about this law, finally.

The Legislative fight on marriage is lost. The Governor signed the bill. The Maine Family Policy Council will be gathering signatures for the People's Veto. We will be working with all citizens who wish to repeal this horrible law. While we are not interested in hurling epithets we understand that this issue produces strong emotions in people on both sides. Those emotions must be given political expression. In Maine we call that the freedom of speech. The Maine Family Policy Council enthusiastically endorses free speech on both sides in the coming debate. Our tolerance goes both ways, unlike the folks who use that word to silence Christianity, common sense, freedom of conscience and decency.

A word about my good friend, Paul Madore, the leader of the Maine Grassroots Coalition. Paul is a Roman Catholic father of nine who isn't perfect, nor is he drop-dead gorgeous like Miss California. He is, however, drop-dead gutsy like his namesake, Paul the Apostle.

And, he is more loyal to his Roman Catholic faith than anybody I've ever met in my entire life. He loves his church, and doesn't shrink from speaking his mind. Make no mistake about it, this is a fight. This is not a discussion, debate or fellowship meeting. This is a win or lose contest.

As one of the greatest men of my father's generation, James Dobson, once said, "To the victor goes the next generation."

I am fighting for my grandchildren yet to be born, and hoping and praying that this corrupt, feminized culture that is poisoning the thinking and values of us all doesn't win over any of my three sons. I will never stop. The folks who want to make sodomy into a virtue and chastity into a vice will have to jail or kill me to stop me from objecting to their ideology.

Make no mistake, it is going to take that kind of dedication to reverse this slide.

Some have walked away from the fight for virtue in the area where it matters most in my generation -- the sanctity of the family. I'm sorry, but I will NEVER walk away from that contest. NEVER. I will stay faithful, loving and strong even if some leaders in the church decide not to be in order to emphasize the more politically correct task of helping poor folks in Africa (something I am doing later this year, by the way).

To compromise or soften my stand would be to abandon everything I hold dear in the Bible, and in my personal experience. Conscience will not permit it.

This has always been about what it is about! IT IS VERY SIMPLE. Sex outside of marriage is always wrong. Equal rights are guaranteed by the VIRTUE of each individual citizen, not by the government. It is unAmerican to believe anything else. Handshakes are what bind people. Marriage belongs to God and all of us, not to the government. The people will either save it or lose it.

We have believed that since 1990, and we have acted on that belief in front of a watching world. We will never stop.

As to the matter of being too clever, allow me to speak briefly to the campaigns of the past ten years. In 1998 we campaigned for Equal Rights and Against Special Rights. We did the same thing in 2001. We won both contests because we proclaimed a truth that the other side wants everyone to ignore. In 2005 I made a bone-headed political mistake. I decided we should talk about what they want us to be talking about -- marriage. I should not have recommended that. In politics you NEVER talk about what your opponent wants you to talk about.

The law under debate was the same one we had defeated twice previously, made slightly worse by the addition of transgendering (whatever that is). We should have stayed with our positive pro-equal rights, no special rights line of argument. I thought that if we brought marriage to the fore we would gain a few more votes. Alas, this gave the other side the opportunity to say we were misleading the public. There was a grain of truth to their argument. Apparently God didn't honor our cleverness.

The government's cause will lose this fight because now it IS about marriage. We will get over sixty percent of the vote, maybe as much as 70 percent after all the votes are counted.

Maine will be the high water mark of the homosexual rights movement in America. I will spill every remaining drop of political blood that I have to assure it. If this Peoples Veto doesn't stop their immature ranting about all things sexual then we will proceed to amend Maine's constitution, something I am loathe to do.

And rest assured, if the civil rights team and anti-free speech movement of so-called "hate crimes" advocates continues in its aggressive posture against the plain teachings of the Bible on sexuality we will shut them down as well. As public sentiment turns against the "sexual orientation" laws in coming years we will repeal them and return common sense to Maine's laws and culture.

Weak families mean a declining Maine. We won't allow that.

Bold Men of God

I saw a book title this morning. "God Built: Bold Men of God aren't Born, they're Built." That got me wondering whether it is possible any longer for bold men of God to be political. In saying that I'm not wondering if they can want power or success. That, in fact, seems to be all that they can want.

I'm wondering if bold men of God can be like the character examined in the book mentioned above. God Built is about Joseph. I haven't read the book so I can't write about its contents. I have read about Joseph.

Joseph didn't want power or success in Egypt. It literally fell into his lap after he fell ... was pushed actually ... into a hole in the desert by his brothers. We all know the story. When offered culturally acceptable sex with the wife of his boss he fled. She lied about him and he went to jail.

Anyway, Joseph wasn't politically correct. He was, however, spiritually powerful. It was, of course, possible to be religious in pagan Egypt. It isn't possible to be both religious and powerful in America anymore. We appear to occupy a nether world between cultural Christianity and rabid atheistic secularism. Many of us now believe that multiculturalism is the glue that will bind us together going forward.

I don't think it will.

Religion is what binds groups together. Shared values are what work. Pretending that a nation can hold opposite values in tension and survive is folly. Bold Christian men will either stand and be counted in a way that honors the Bible and Christian tradition, or the USA will continue to crumble.

President John Quincy Adams said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Unfortunately I meet less and less bold Christian men as I travel. I do meet them, but almost none of them understand the cultural mandate. Many of them are interested in evangelism. Some are evangelizing.

Three men whose communications inspire and challenge me are Doug Giles, Dave Daubenmire and James Dobson. They are different from one another. Their styles are so divergent as to be completely disconnected and even contrary to one another. However, they share in common a passion for applying Biblical reasoning to unpopular ... non politically correct ... issues like sexuality, abortion, marriage and the family.
